Speeding Up :)

80 degrees Fahrenheit, 58% humidity, 9 mph winds....Practice started at 10:30 AM, leaving my team under the direct gaze of the sun. Whenever I begin feeling fatigued in while running in hot weather, I just think of the athletes that run a marathon through the lava fields of the Kona Ironman race in Hawaii.
Despite the heat, I thought that practice went pretty well. There was a strong breeze that was a welcome relief in between reps. Here is a run-down of today's practice:
  • 1600 meter warm-up (7:55)
  • 400 meter recovery
  • 2*200 meter sprints (approximately 44 seconds each), 200 meter recovery in between
  • 200 meter recovery
  • 1200 meters hard (5:54)
  • 400 meter recovery
  • 800 meters hard (3:51)
  • 400 meter recovery
  • 400 meters hard (1:45)
Total interval distance: 2.75 miles
Total recovery distance: 1 mile

My legs felt great today, and I am psyched by the fact that my times have gone down. I was super surprised that my warm-up was done so quickly, especially since I have not run 1600 meters on the track so far this season. It probably is because of all the crazy 800 meter and 1000 meter repeats Coach has had me run.
Cat was the only other distance girl that came to practice today (today being Saturday), and it was super awesome being able to run with her.  I am astounded by the amount of grace God gave me during Sophomore year to run track despite being the only distance girl. Running solo is hard during painful workouts. I have also found that I run faster when I have someone to compete with at practice.
Despite being a freshman, Cat has a ton of potential. I can't wait to see how she and the newer girls do during our first track meet next Wednesday!

Tina's cello lessons are right by a Dunkin' Donuts, so her and Dad saved me a glazed donut for after track practice.

A book that I just finished reading. It really encouraged me, and I would refer it to anyone seeking spiritual and training inspiration. It's like running advice and a devotional morphed into one.

Chocolate protein bar that I devoured after getting my hair trimmed. Sitting in the salon makes me hungry, probably because I usually go 2-3 hours after eating lunch.
